New Pastor Gets The Nod

Citizens agree that there hasn't been a greater preacher in Acorn Hill since the arrival of Pastor Eli Hemlock.
Hemlock, who came from heaven, brings much joy and many smiles to those who know him. He is definitely a people person. "I really love my fellow citizens," Hemlock said. "I hope to teach them patience. I want them to slow down. I want them to live in the moment but to be mindful of the eternal. I want them to find beauty in the simple things."

There are times when Hemlock is full of passion. His words are mixed with a crying out for unmet needs to be met. Some people don't like this kind of preaching, but to Acorn Hill citizens it's music to their ears.

Prior to Hemlock's arrival, Nathaniel Barn Loft preached on an irregular basis.

Daffodil Demonstrates Doll Making

Over the last couple of weeks Sarah Daffodil has done a lot of knot tying, dyeing and corn husk bending. She is teaching an 8-week -course on corn husk doll making. Today was Week 2.

The first week she talked about corn husk dolls and their history. Everyone in class made a corn husk broom. Today Daffodil demonstrated how to make a doll. Her 12 students followed her instructions and made corn husk doll heads. "Next week I hope we'll all finish a doll," said Daffodil. Week 4 they'll be dyeing. Week 5 will be a demonstration on accessories. "Then the next three weeks will just be a time of fun, perfecting and experimenting," said Daffodil.

Today's class went very well and I have excellent students!

From Cowboy Mayor to Kick Returner

Inspired by a vest made for him by Sarah Daffodil, Mayor Asher Ply Wood recently donned his full cowboy attire (pajama style) and even rounded up a horse to ride. Yesterday, the Mayor shed his cowboy hat in exchange for a football helmet, this time inspired by a football field built by Nathaniel Barn Loft. The field, which is located between the Main House and Fernville, is complete with goal posts that Barn Loft constructed.

On the Road

Nathaniel Barn Loft is enjoying life on the road with Main House President Dad this week - fishing together Monday and Tuesday as part of Dad's work. They have a dulcimer concert scheduled at a church near home on Wednesday, so they spent part of this afternoon practicing on the balcony of their villa at Wild Dunes Resort, near Charleston. They'll fish for redfish in the salt marsh tomorrow and then drive to Black's Camp on the Santee Cooper lakes, where they will fish (probably for big catfish) on Tuesday. Hopefully, fish stories will follow soon!

Mom Confesses

Yes, there is a time for every purpose under heaven. But was this the best time for Main House First Lady Mom to turn, turn, turn her head?

Mayor Asher Ply Wood and Autumn Fern were dishing out dog food for their animals. Mom knew what was going on when they set her storage containers filled with Queen Esther Hunt's kibbles on the coffee table. "Yes, I saw everything. I thought I'd take a chance. I knew what could happen." At the same time Sarah Daffodil was making a corn husk doll for her upcoming class she is teaching. Nathaniel Barn Loft was doing his writing lesson. Main House President Dad was writing fishing articles. Mom was holding Pastor Eli Hemlock while reading a biography about Clara Barton. "What was I to do? Everything else was so nice. A mess did happen but they are easy to clean." Mom added, "A wise lady once said, 'we can't take our clean houses with us." No doubt Mom will turn her head again.

Ply Wood and Fern were not sent to their Main House rooms until they started sliding on the dog food and throwing it. Mom was about to help them clean before this. You know what the two will be doing after dinner.

Trying to jog

There's new trail that's very dog frendly, so Esther Hunts, Main House First Lady Mom, Sarah Dafodill and I went for a walk or a jog. Sarah and I had gone there once before, walking with Main House President Dad, Mayor Asher Ply Wood and Autumn Fern. Not able to keep up with Mom's three laps jogging, Sarah and I could only go two laps, taking breaks along the way, but it was still a fun walk.

Over the Rivers and Through the Woods

Acorn Hill citizens went over the rivers and through the woods to Grandpa's and Grandma Terry's house, starting their travel on Christmas day. There, they decorated a gingerbread house, played in the snow and ate like kings and queens. It was short and sweet - one weekend - but well worth the drive. Here are a few pictures. Acorn Hill staff hopes to post a slideshow with more pictures from this trip very soon.
